The projects, which will include building new stores and expanding, remodelling or relocating existing stores, will represent an investment of more than half a billion dollars in Canadian communities.
The supercentres are expected to generate more than 9,200 store and construction jobs. Specific store locations will be announced over the coming weeks and months.
Walmart has also confirmed that it’s bringing the supercentre programme to two new provinces in 2011: Manitoba and Quebec.
Walmart Canada’s supercentre format was first launched in Ontario in 2006 and is available in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan.
