One of the most important stories of the week came from AB InBev, as the company decided to offload Australian subsidiary Carlton & United Breweries to Asahi Group for $11.3 billion. The move comes as a part of the brewer’s plan to reduce debt amassed through its acquisition of SABMiller for more than $100 billion in 2016.
In this week’s edition, we also discuss the impact of PepsiCo’s announcement on Friday morning that it is to acquire South African Pioneer Foods Group for approximately $1.7 billion, giving the brand a solid foothold in Sub Saharan Africa.
On the packaging side, we take a look at the result of Ardagh Group and Exal Corporation’s merger agreement, which will create one of the largest metal packaging companies: Trivium Packaging,
We also take a closer look at the results of a study published by Mintel, looking at growth in the milk alternative segment, and the implications in a wider landscape of health, ethics and the environment.
Other news discussed includes the end of a potential merger between BRF and Marfrig, Costa Coffee’s ongoing expansion plans, and sustainable packaging producer Genera’s plans for $118 million in new funding.
