It’s financial results season, and so this week’s podcast features a roundup of the latest performances from some of the biggest companies in the industry, as well as more acquisitions, major production investments, packaging developments and “the most significant innovation” in Cadbury’s history.
Last week saw many of the major players announce their quarterly results, including Nestlé, Coca-Cola, AB InBev, Danone, and Unilever; and we discuss the performances of each company, as well as some of the key reasons for their performances.
There were also a few major production investments from McCain and Muller. McCain opted to invest approximately $100 million to build its first french fry production site in Brazil, while Müller decided to invest £50 million to double the size of its yogurt production Telford, UK. We assessed why the companies have decided to make these moves.
As usual, there were a number of acquisitions made by major food and beverage companies. Swedish food company Midsona acquired the Alimentation Sante organic foods business from Ebro Foods, expanding its portfolio in high-growth segments such as meat alternatives.
In the dairy industry, Emmi Group acquired Italian dessert producer Pasticceria Quadrifoglio for an undisclosed sum, expanding its product offering in the dessert market, especially for the catering sector.
In the alcoholic beverage sector, Molson Coors, Constellation Brands and Campari Group all made acquisitions, with beer and rum brands featuring heavily.
In the packaging industry, Sidel acquired COMEP, a French producer and designer of moulds for PET, while the UK government decided to commit £60 million to help develop new forms of packaging.
Finally, we discussed “the most significant innovation” in Cadbury’s history, as the brand released a new chocolate bar which contains 30% less sugar than standard variants.
