Wholestone Farms to establish more than $500m pork facility in South Dakota

Wholestone Farms has acquired land in South Dakota, US, as it looks to establish a new pork processing operation in Sioux Falls.

The farmer-owned pork producer plans to develop the land into a new pork harvest and processing facility, with the project value estimated at more than $500 million.

According to Wholestone Farms, the project will initially see the employment of more than 1,100 people.

Luke Minion, board chairman at Wholestone Farms, said: “Wholestone Farms and its farmer owners have a strong culture of corporate citizenship and with many of our members currently living and doing business in the area, we look forward to being a preferred employer and impactful participant in the Sioux Falls community.”

In 2018, Hormel Foods agreed to offload its pork processing facility in Fremont, Nebraska, to WholeStone Farms for an undisclosed figure.
